Oral SedationSedation dentistry, sometimes known as "sleep dentistry," can help patients who normally have difficulty doing so to completely relax through their appointments. This treatment is ideal for those with dental fears or those who have difficulty getting numb.. It can also turn multiple appointments into a single visit. Patients take a pill prior to treatment. Though completely relaxed, patients will be awake enough to respond to the doctor. Sedation dentistry reduces the body's natural tendency to tense muscles while stressed. This can create a more effective dental visit, allowing for much more to be accomplished, while eliminating concerns about discomfort. "The first time I saw Jane, she had a horrible toothache and an equally horrible fear of the dentist. Her fear would not allow us to place a rubber dam over her tooth to perform a root canal which would have eliminated her pain. With Jane's permission, I removed the tooth then performed the root canal on the tooth while holding it in my hand and then I placed it back in the same socket. Even though I had just met Jane, I didn't want her to go through life with a space when she smiled. Since that time, we have worked with Jane taking one little pill and she has had many procedures completed and barely remembered them. Her husband, Joe, drops and picks her up so she doesn't have to drive. I can say it has helped Jane immensely and has allowed us to provide high-quality dental care that she really needed without the fear and loss of sleep for days." -Dr. Steve

![]() "Notice to "chickens" everywhere - you no longer need to fear the dental chair. There's a brand new advancement called oral sedation that will rock your dental phobic world. Trust me. I was the BIGGEST chicken in the continental U.S., but not anymore. I have now undergone root canals, crowns, fillings, and oral surgery without fear, panic, or pain. This new med rocks. Of course, so does my dentist, Dr. Steve. Thank you." - Jane Hilley |
